Hooked on Technology

I never thought I would be "hooked on technology". Granted I'm in the IT industry, but NEVER thought I would be such a txt-er, face in my computer kind of gal. I partially blame my smart phone and facebook. LOL! I can't put the full blame on those two things because...well, I have to take responsibility for my own actions. I also had one of those "oh wow" moments tonight. I was thinking how can my kids get excited to learn to write when they never see mommy writing? Is it unrealistic for me to not want my kids thinking txt'ing is the norm in this day and age where technology has become so advanced? I barely scribble on paper anymore to the point it often times feels uncomfortable and awkward. I don't even recognize my own handwriting anymore! We are told to read at least twenty minutes a day to our kids. Shouldn't writing hold the same value?

So, I am going to do something I have not done in many many years. I'm making a New Years resolution! It is to not be so hooked on technology. For starters, I can upgrade my phone in January and I'm going to choose one where I actually feel comfortable talking on. (one reason I txt more than talk) ....and maybe, just maybe I won't install the facebook app on it! ;-)
I am also going to limit my personal computer time. Creating this blog was lots of fun, but I lost too many much needed hours of sleep!

I pledge to sleep more, play with my kids more, read more often and write on actual paper! Oh yeah, I might as well throw in exercise too since I'm on a roll here! Could I possibly devote so much attention to my smart phone/computer where I can replace that time with all I just stated? Well, I will let you know in a few months! Let's see how well I stick to my New Years resolution.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things.” Philippians 4:6-8

I have been going through some trials of my own lately. It seems like everything comes at us all at once. I can easily succumb to worry and we all know worry just takes root and infests itself in our lives. Before you know it, your whole life is focused on what you are worried about. Every waking, breathing moment and sometimes it invades our sleep as well. When I am faced with a trial I always turn to this scripture. Just knowing that God loves me so much and I can bring all my worries to Him is comforting.

It is not always easy to do and I am the first to admit that. Its also a lot easier for someone to tell us this or for us to tell someone else the same thing when they are faced with a difficult time. When we first feel worry entering our hearts that is when we need to pray and press in to God. Talk to Him about what is troubling you and take everything to Him. Just as a child takes everything to his/her parents. After all he is our Father and we are his children. Nothing is too small for His power and nothing is too great for His Fatherly care.

While we are giving it all to Him we need to remember to thank Him for everything, for times of laughter and times of tears, for the good news and life’s not so good news.  When we pray to God with thanksgiving for everything no matter what we are facing, it implies gratitude and total submission to God’s will. William Barclay says in his daily study bible;

The love of God is He only desires what is best for us.
The wisdom of God, which He alone knows what is best for us.
The power of God, which He alone can bring about what is best for us.

Pray in the perfect trust of the love, wisdom and power of God it will bring peace to our hearts. The peace of God is so precious the human mind can never produce it alone. It is given by God through prayer.

So we can present our requests to God and completely trust Him and then set our minds on things that are holy and pure, not on things that give false peace, deception and that are misleading. Instead let’s focus on kindness, sympathy, patience, all things that are fit for God to hear.

Dear Friend, please join me today and let God replace your worry and fears with His peace and joy! Meditate on this scripture and pray. Your heart and soul will be renewed!

Give thanks to the Lord and pray to Him!

I feel like there is something I need to say, I just don't know what it is. Like so many people, I am having many mixed emotions this Christmas season and the reasons I'm sure are a combination of many things. One thing I do know is I have been feeling very overwhelmed, kind of like I'm running with my feet off the ground. Have you ever felt that way? I get this mental picture of a child who is trying to run away, but someone much taller than them is holding the back of their shirt and their feet are just moving, but not going anywhere.

Yes, we have been very busy with many different activities and this weekend I decided we needed to slow down. We didn't attend gatherings with friends because I just needed to be still and regroup. I have also made a consious effort to keep things simple this year. I didn't go crazy with Christmas gifts and we actually made gifts for family members! I'm focusing on the true meaning of CHRISTmas and will be reading the story of baby Jesus to my children on Christmas eve. I think we will even bake a birthday cake!

Perhaps what I truly want to say is maybe we all need to do Christmas a little differently this year. Slow down, rejoice in the Lord, thank Him and praise him! Don't forget to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas!

The Story of Baby Jesus

A long time ago, there was a woman named Mary who was engaged to a man named Joseph. One day, the angel, Gabriel went to visit Mary. Mary became afraid when she saw the angel so the angel said to her, “Mary, do not be afraid. You have found favor with God. You will have a son and you will name him Jesus.” Mary was confused so the angel told her the Holy Spirit will perform a miracle and assured Mary nothing is impossible with God!
Mary couldn’t believe what she was hearing and didn’t know what to say. She was trembling and knelt down. She finally said, “I am the Lord’s servant and I hope everything you say will come true.” Then the angel left.
Soon after, Joseph found out that Mary was going to have a baby.  Joseph was confused and upset by this. But an angel came to him in a dream and said, "Joseph do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife.  The child Mary is going to have is God's son, and you are to give him the name Jesus."
When Joseph woke up he remembered what the angel had said.  He knew that everything was okay, and he wasn't upset anymore.
In those days, the government counted everyone in the whole world. So Joseph took Mary to Bethlehem to register. It took them a long time to get there because there were no cars back then. While they were there they looked for a place to stay, but there was no room at the inn. One of the townspeople was kind enough to let them stay in their barn. Mary and Joseph were happy because it was warm and they were tired from the long journey.
That night an exciting and wonderful thing happened! Mary had her baby! She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger. This wasn’t just any baby, but Baby Jesus! The King of Kings, the one who would save the world!

Trust in Him


"Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight." Proverbs 3:5-6

After I was saved I often found myself thinking if only I came to Him sooner I wouldn’t have made all these terrible decisions in my life. I do believe God reveals wisdom to his children when they are ready. Although I asked for forgiveness and I know I have been washed as white as snow it took me a little bit to let the past go. I now know God has a plan for me and one day it will all be revealed to me. For now, I can only thank Him and praise Him for all my blessings (good & bad). Yes, even the trials in my life because I truly believe they led me right into the loving open arms of my Father. The Bible says, "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11
Every day is an exciting new day when you put your trust in the Lord and lean on Him for knowledge, guidance and strength! I also now know God loved me even when I disregarded Him. His love is the greatest gift of all! I want everyone in the world to feel God’s love! What a better world would it be if everyone had that love and joy in their hearts?
This scripture is one of my favorites and one I need to constantly remind myself of. Being a single mom I need all the strength and wisdom I can get and no one better to get it from than our creator, savior and redeemer! I looked to the Lord when my children were born and I know he has been a father to them and a husband to me. I will glorify Him and praise Him with my heart and soul and I don’t care what anyone thinks!

"He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint" Isaiah 40:29-31 (NIV).
